Apple TV rewrote the Emmys record book with 28 wins. Leading the charge: "Widow's Bay," the freshman comedy-horror about a maybe-cursed island that swept up 14 trophies, including Outstanding Comedy Series. The night's biggest history-maker was Matthew Rhys, who became the first actor to win two lead acting Emmys in a single night.
HBO Max settled for second place at the Mariska Hargitay-hosted ceremony. "The Pitt" repeated as Outstanding Drama Series, with an assist from "DTF St. Louis," per Variety's tally. For a first-season show, 14 statues is the kind of sweep that turns a maybe-cursed island into very blessed real estate — and hands Apple bragging rights heading into next season.
