Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" hauled in roughly $15 million in Thursday previews, the best of the year so far, Deadline reports. Universal's Homer epic sails into wide release today with a cast that reads like an awards-show seating chart: Matt Damon, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland, for starters.

Nolan shot the $250 million adaptation almost entirely without digital effects, per Vanity Fair, which means real ships, real seas, and a very real gamble at that price.
