Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" hauled in roughly $15 million in Thursday previews, the best of the year so far, Deadline reports. Universal's Homer epic sails into wide release today with a cast that reads like an awards-show seating chart: Matt Damon, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland, for starters.

Nolan shot the $250 million adaptation almost entirely without digital effects, per Vanity Fair, which means real ships, real seas, and a very real gamble at that price. The weekend will show whether audiences answer the siren call. But if Thursday's haul is any omen, the summer box office just found its hero.
